| | | | Joined: Nov 2004 Posts: 2 Junior Member | | Junior Member Joined: Nov 2004 Posts: 2 | I've just cleaned and reinstalled the wiper motor on my '50 3600 Chevy. When I turn the motor on, the wipers make one quick swipe to the far sides of the windshield and stop. They don't come back and they don't swipe back and forth like they should.
Have I missed something??? When I took the motor apart, there was a lot of grease and sticky buildup along the chamber where the paddle sweeps back and forth. I cleaned that and made sure the paddle moved freely.
Above the area where the vacuum hose connects to the motor there is a hole which was allowing air to escape from the motor. I plugged that as I saw no hose or other connector that looked like it belonged in there, but I'm wondering what that outlet is for.
I would appreciate some advice, as the rain and snow season is approaching and I plan on driving my truck daily.

With vaccuum it collapsed stopping the wipers. If you unplug the vent hole, your wipers should work as advertised.

I had planned to disassemble my vacuum wiper motor to clean it, and did so yesterday.
After cleaning it I couldn't remember what I had read that should be used for lubrication. Was it petroleum jelly, brake fluid, or mineral oil?
Of course a seach revealed Vaseline. Thanks.
Motor now works like a charm. Surprising how much gunk is in those things.
