The Stovebolt Site Forums The Shop Area General Truck Talk Question about ...what is is?!

I have a couple questions:

I don't know what this is called, so any help will do.
On my 305 V8, towards the top front of the engine, it's got a Y shaped thing. I think it's the water outlet? It bolts into the intake manifold. Well one part of it I think has the radiator hose going to it, and the other part has this beige plastic thing. It looks like a little cylinder, and has (on one side) 3 vacuums going into it. This thing is not even connected, it broke off. I have no idea what it is or does...

Any help on that?

The 2nd thing is the power windows. I've got em, and the motor died on me yesterday. I tried the old trick of popping it with a hammer/mallet. But it still won't go up, and if I'm going to change the motor, how do I get it to go up there?

Hardy,

That's a thermostatically activated vacuum switch. One of the plugs is vacuum in, and the other two would be switched output -- when the engine heats up, they get vacuum. They're common smog control items.

Well, what was originally a 1 hour job with my dad turned into a 7 hour fiasco, with a new hole in my door, and my arm all cut up, and a whole bunch of other stuff.

but my goes up, and it goes down, quickly, so I guess I'm done!

Power Windows... Gotta love 'em.

I've had to replace them on my '89 Suburban and the wife's '93 S10 Blazer, also two of them on a '90 Celebrity wagon I had for a while.
