I have a small master cylinder leak. Chevyduty.com has master cylinders for the '51 and another for the '52-55. Frankly...they look identical and they both have 1 1/8" bore, so I'm unsure what to order. Is there a sure fire way to determine if the cylinder in my truck is indeed a '51?
Thanks. | | | | | Joined: Sep 2002 Posts: 115 Member | | Member Joined: Sep 2002 Posts: 115 | The '51 cylinder should have the brake line screwed directly into the head nut (big outlet adapter that screws into end of cylinder) with a 7/16"-24 tube nut. On the '52-'55(1) cylinder, the head nut is tapped 1/2"-20 and will probably have a banjo bolt and fitting, though some may be set up for 1/2"-20 tube nut with a brass tube seat pressed into the head nut.

The 53-54 Master Cylinder has the same number stamped on the Master Cylinder followed by the letter "J". However, the 53-54 Double Duty also uses the same Master Cylinder as the 51-52. That Part Number is: 5453837. The Part Number for the 53-54 is 5454022.
