on the Internet for over 30 years! and not clogged down with Ads! Again, thanks! | | | | Joined: Apr 2002 Posts: 142 Member | | Member Joined: Apr 2002 Posts: 142 | I need some help with my daughters S-10. The truck is a 95 with a 4 cyl 5 speed. You can shift it into all the gears but 4th is the only one that the clutch engages in , it will drive forward in 4th if you bring up the rpm's. I was thinking the clutch , any ideas? | | | | | Joined: Jan 2000 Posts: 1,586 Extreme Gabster | | Extreme Gabster Joined: Jan 2000 Posts: 1,586 | On a T-5,only 4th is a direct drive through the mainshaft,in all the other gears, the drive is through the cluster gears.Drive in 4th only must mean the front input shaft gear is history. If the clutch is broken or worn,it would drive in all gears besides 4th to some degree. Got gear noise to go with that suspected bad clutch? | | | | | Joined: Oct 2002 Posts: 4,066 Bolter | | Bolter Joined: Oct 2002 Posts: 4,066 | scott, nice link, thanks for posting,,Fred Redryder pixMy HotrodA veteran - whether active duty, retired, national guard, or reserve - is someone who, at one point in his or her life, wrote a blank check made payable to The 'United States of America', for an amount of "up to and including my life."I am fighting cancer and I am winning the fight | Pain is part of life; misery is an option. | | | | | Joined: Apr 2002 Posts: 142 Member | | Member Joined: Apr 2002 Posts: 142 | No gear noise ,and fourth shifts smooth , don't know that much about standard transmissions, how hard is it to fix? Thanks for the quik response! | | | | | Joined: Jul 2004 Posts: 5,708 'Bolter | | 'Bolter Joined: Jul 2004 Posts: 5,708 | I am by no means a tranny man, but I recently talked with a fellow who had a similar problem. A rollpin broke in the shift fork assembly allowing the shifter to move and feel normal but not moving any clusters, or gears! Good luck.

I'm not sure how Chevy does theirs, but other makers use keyways to assemble the input gear to the countershaft and they can strip and the only gear left will be 4th. I hate to tell you but, I'm afraid the trans has got to come out, Scott | | | | | Joined: Apr 2002 Posts: 142 Member | | Member Joined: Apr 2002 Posts: 142 | Well I pretty much figured the tranny would have to be removed , I will pull it apart myself and see if I can figure it out soon. | | |
