I have an outside sunvisor thats been sitting in my garage for about a year now and I still can't make up my mind if I should put it on. I already have a spotlight and the small bumper guards. I'd like to see how many of you like it on and how many say keep it off. Cecil........

IMHO -- Install it. I like the looks and they are functional. Not like a racoon's tail on the antenna which is neither.

I don't really like them, but then I am tall and even the stock windshield makes it hard for me to see traffic lights.

If you aren't sure if you like it or not then you probably will like the $400 or so that it's worth in your wallet much better.

Install it,although my 55 2nd has been updated,(streetrodded) the sun visor stays on.I think it looks sharp.They were very popular back then.

I've been pondering the same thing for my 56 Cecil. But I'll probably add power steering first!

I have one that is set lower than usual, making hard to see streetlights, but I like it anyway. I never seem to need sunglasses when driving the panel, but I won't go anywhere in the '89 Suburban without them. My dad tells me they ruin your gas mileage. I thought I would experiment with and without once I get the engine, brakes and drivetrain up to highway speed standards.

Click on my profile, there's a picture there. My visor is off a bigger truck (I think) thus it is designed to sit lower. I bought a fresnel to better see the streetlights. I love the way the visor looks and the protection it gives. If I give it up it will be for fuel mileage.

I think it's a matter of personal taste,some people love them and some people hate them. I've been going to shows and events since the sixties and as I go down the rows of vehicles ,I only look at the ones that have all the cool options like Visors or spotlights.I guess it's because I've seen so many cars over the years that the ones without the toys look plain to me now.

Put it on! I got a Fulton on the 41 and I love it.

Bought a better looking one - "no name" but verry sharp design - last week and put that on next weekend. I don`t like the Fulton "Dogbone" brackets. The new one is in a better condition and the brackets sit better on the rail of the 41.

Cecil, I like your truck the way it is. To put more stuff on it will distract the eye from the other qualities of your truck. I have two and have decided that I will not be putting them on the suburban at this time in fact I am going to put back the Suburban the way it came from the factory, painted grille and no visor. I will add the radio. ..........g

If y'all ride high in the saddle like I do you don't want one. To see what it's like put a piece of masking tape 1/3 of the way down your windshield and go for a drive. Anything above that line, like traffic lights, can't be seen.

The thing about the sunvisor that some people do not know is, that when they came equipted on a vehicle ,they were accompanied with a trffic viewer. This little prism that was part of the visor/viewer option
sat on the dash to allow you to see the traffic light. :-)

Oh, and Brad, it can't effect fuel mileage unless you're going over 45 - which isn't real typical in Chevy's. At UTA we did an autmotive engineering lab and found that on all vehicles wind resistance does not kick in until about 45 mph. I guess the extra weight might effect it a TAD, but not enough to notice.

Thanks guys, it's a pretty close vote. I was hopeing that one side would be a definite winner but doesn't look that way. When I saw whizzericks beautiful green truck with visor I was sold. But quite a few of you talk about vision problems, so for now I think I'll leave it sitting in the corner of my garage for another year. Cecil.........

I plan on going over 45 when I get the 454 and overdrive in, brakes and steering updated and the rear end re-geared.

As for extra weight... Have you seen my truck? It needs to go on a serious diet! It weighs 5000 lbs bone dry and empty. Maybe I should invert the visor and try to get some lift out of it...

My thoughts on this issue are to weld stainless steel studs to the pillars so that instead of screws in the sheet metal there will be no holes. Then I can remove the visor if it messes up the mileage and I'm planning a long trip.
