For helping keep this great
old truck web site
on the Internet for over 30 years! and not clogged down with Ads! Again, thanks! | | | | Joined: Nov 2003 Posts: 285 Shop Shark | | Shop Shark Joined: Nov 2003 Posts: 285 | I know this has been brought up before, but for the benefit of our new members to the Stovebolt, I thought it would be beneficial to bring it up again. Chevrolet Motor Division has a FREE Restoration Packet available for most all trucks. You can call toll free to the Chevy Customer Assistance Center (1-800-222-1020) and request your free packet. You must have your VIN ready to give the clerk as the VIN will determine the Technical Data Sheets that will be sent to you. In addition, they will include a book on "Past Model Information" that gives a lot of sources for parts and information. Not a bad deal as even the shipping to you is FREE! (Mine was shipped UPS). If you own a Canadian made GM truck, the Restoration Packs are available, but unfortunately, not free. The numbers to call for your packet (in Canada) is 1-888-467-6853 between 8 am - 5 pm Eastern Time, or (outside Canada) 1-905-644-3387 or 1-905-644-4060. You can view the contents of the packets by viewing the GM Canada site. | | | | | Joined: May 2003 Posts: 213 'Bolter | | 'Bolter Joined: May 2003 Posts: 213 | The people are wonderful to deal with, work fast and very nice. I was pleased with what I got for my 34, very helpful, but the info for 53 was aparently lost along the way, as there wasn't much there. Anybody got a good 52 packet I could see sometime? | | | | | Joined: Apr 2002 Posts: 1,571 Shop Shark | | Shop Shark Joined: Apr 2002 Posts: 1,571 | Now if only GMC would start giving out restoration packets... | | | | | Joined: Nov 1995 Posts: 1,159 Shop Shark | | Shop Shark Joined: Nov 1995 Posts: 1,159 | Thanks for adding that Brian. We've got that bit of info buried in another tech tip and it's in the hopper to bring it out to the fore.
That is a great packet of info and the folks are great. We need to encourage more people to get their hands on it.
Yes, it would be good if they had one for GMC. Perhaps we can work on that one during the winter.

I bought my data info for $20 plus tax years ago and all I got that I could use were the dates my truck was built and delivered. The rest was a bunch of poorly photo-copied data sheets pertaining to all American built and model number trucks. The information which pertained to the half ton truck is available anywhere today. In fact I looked at mine once and filed it but can't find it now even though I keep reams of other truck info in binders. Don't mean to sound negative but to me it was a waste of $20. | | | | | Joined: Oct 2004 Posts: 96 Member | | Member Joined: Oct 2004 Posts: 96 | Hey thanks 4 the info. i have an american built truck. would the information benifit me or is it a waste of money. I live in canada in B.C and oldblu49 said it was a waste of money. should i order one or should i save my 20 dollers 4 new parts? thnx | | | | | Joined: Nov 2003 Posts: 285 Shop Shark | | Shop Shark Joined: Nov 2003 Posts: 285 | For American built trucks, it's free. Now, would General Motors ship the packet free to Canada? Don't know. Give them a call. | | | | | Joined: Nov 1995 Posts: 1,159 Shop Shark | | Shop Shark Joined: Nov 1995 Posts: 1,159 | 61Apache10
I got that packet for my '49s and I've gotten a lot of use out of it -- especially for the 4400. Oldblu is right in that there's a lot of the same info available online for the 1/2-tons. But if you can get it for free, or at least for the cost of postage, I think its worth it.
