Heikki- How about "Stovebolt" for a name? I'm sure everyone here would agree it sounds good. You may be sleeping in the doghouse again if you suggest it to the wife though.

Well HAPPY BIRTHDAY, Kip. (I was wondering how you remember about CF's bundle being due today grin ).

I think John would also recommend either John Crosby or J. Crosby.

Stovebolt for a name? Well ... it could start a trend. Not much different than Tiger, Moonunit, Queenie, Aurora.

John's Swedish grandfather was Carl and his grandmother was Hilma. His other grandmother was Helenora. Those are pretty good Scandanavian names for your consideration (John says).

We were expecting twins and it took us a year to name our dog. We actually got a computer program with names and really spent a lot of time. One of the names we picked is very common the other very obscure.
After we knew the names we had to decide which was which. We had an idea about first born etc but we wanted to see them first. Then we decided the names were right. Pfew, that was close.

My grandpas name was Elmer, my dads name is Earl and my grandmas name was Grace (which I like and is my daughters middle name). I guess I was the first in my family to get a "normal" name, although I thought my name was "G** darn-it" for my first 5 years. If you want to name him/her after the stovebolt era, go with "clutch-head".
Just my opinion,
Scott

I got my second son's name off a road map of Oklahoma. We had a girl's name picked out (Amanda), but we never thought of a boy's name until the day before he launched out the chute. I was going to look at a '52 Chevy truck in Camargo, OK, and wanted to find it on the map, first (no, that's not his name!). I found the alpha listing and below that was "Cameron". And Cameron it became. Ten years later, he really wants a Chevy or Dodge truck, nothing newer than a 1970. Boy makes me proud! His big brother has the '46 Chevy truck.

Never did end up looking at that '52 truck!

The name game.

When our son was born we didn't know what to name him. My wife is czech. Czech families are large, her family had used all the names. We did not want to use any of their names. Funny.

I am from a Danish family. My grandfather's name was Niels. That is my son's name. I love the name. He is the only Niels in school. Possibly in Texas.

I think Dennis or Niels would be a nice name for your precious child.

Hi Finn,
Better keep a pot of coffee on for the wait. My first daughter was 7 days late and we finaly had to go in and get her. As far as names, we had an easy time with girl names, but when we found out we were having a boy, we seemend to have a hard time comming up with something we liked. We wanted to have some family in our sons name. My wife's grandma's maiden name was Gares and my maternal grandfather was named John (Juan)so we came up with Gares John. We like his name and the family is proud. I dont know how my grandparents named all their kids. My mom comes from a family of 15 kids and my dad from 11. I have over 60 1st cousins. Its not easy to come up with a name that is not already in use.

Just try and keep the new momma comfortable and happy and the baby will show up when he's ready. Good luck and best wishes.
Ralph

Heikki!

Just reading over this thread and thinking about you naming the little one.

I looked at a site that gives Finnish names and
there are lots of nice names listed.

A thought--how about one that is easily interpreted around the world. As the little one grows older our societies will increase their travels and interactions. Having a Finnish name that is easily recognized everywhere might be an advantage. Just an idea.

e.g. for a girl names such as 'Saara' 'Liisa' 'Kirsti' etc.

for a boy--- 'Fredrik' 'Tuomas' (Tom) 'Timo' (Tim)

Whatever you pick I'm sure will suit that little one.

Best wishes, George

Maiden names seem to be used alot for kids names. We named my son Pierce which was my mother's maiden name, and his middle name is my grandpa's and my dad's name Bernard. My daughter, which is due in March, will be named my wife's maiden name, Sage, and her middle name will be my wife's grandmother's name, Audeline. Family names are always good. That way when people ask kids why they have wierd names, they have a better answer than "my parents must have been drunk"

Ok, James. Must admit it had a "funny twist" to it! grin

Actually, when it started out, I thought -- oh, how neat. (Kinda like patrick66's story.)

"Charity" is a good name.

Maiden names? My mainden name is Ilg. It was BAD enough as a last name when I was a kid. Margaret Ilg at that. I really hated my name. I'm not that crazy about Peggy either.

Our daughters are Melanie Marie (the Marie is my grandmother's name) and Megan Maureen. The three of us are "MM's" (my middle name is Mary). So, when I married John, we were all MMM.

At the time, I thought it was neat. Megan is Galic for Margaret, which also means Pearl (Kip).

Ohhh ... how about "Addie" which stands for A.D. which stands for "Advance Design."

Hmmmmmmmmmm?

grin

Peg

BTW - John just reported in from KY. He made the trip in one piece and has retrieved his hitch wagon. Should be home by tomorrow evening.

Patrick -- I think it is a "men's only" topic. I'm the ONLY female ... and, well, I was just "snooping around" and had to throw my 2 cents in -- being a female and all.

So, who does knit?

Classic,

Hang in there!!

I've been telling everyone about Finland's paying back the WWII loan for some time!

We've also spent some time with our Finnish-American friends the Helsinki Bar in Butte, MT. It was right in the middle of Butte's old Finntown.

Finally, HAUSKA JOULUA!! It's the only nice Finnish that I know. (Did I spell it right?)

Hey Man I didn't start this, you did............9 months ago.

Yah know some of the hard core Truck Post Only guys are probably having a cow with this thread!
But stand back and look at what we've all been through together. Life/death, sickness/health, misfortune/fortune, I've been here five-six years and wouldn't know who any of you were if I passed you on the street, maybe it's better that way heck I don't know.
I wish you and yours only the best.

Hey Classic Finn,

It's now the 8th! Little fella still not here? Must want to stay where it's warm! wink

I see you've been trying to pick a name for him and it looks like you've been leaning towards names starting with a "B". I got one (in the spirit of this site) that you may like! "Bolten"

I think "Bolten Finn" would be a great name! smile grin grin
