After over two years restoration, it came down to priming the oil pump, and bringing Dusty back to life, yesterday. Wiring was all checked and everything looked good. Timing light was hooked up ready to set the timing once it fired up. Choke pulled back to get gas to the carb. Key switch on and the moment arrived--pushed the foot starter. The motor turned over and over a few times (didn't start) and I stopped and gave the starter a rest. After a few minutes, tried again---and sparks flew from both the battery POS post and the starter silonoid (sic). :confused: Waited a few minutes and tried again--same results with the sparks. :mad: Put the truck in gear and rocked it back and forth a few times, and tried again--SAME results! :mad: :mad: Pulled the starter and noticed the teeth in it were worn and a couple teeth broken. Instead of trying anything else, I "fired up" the computer and placed an order for a new starter from Jim Carter. Should be here by next Wednesday, and after installation, will try again Saturday to attempt another start up. On the bright side, this will give me another week to shine Dusty and prep him for our Car Club cruise in on the 8th. of April. My goal was to get him ready by then, and looks like plenty of time to do it. Wish me luck!!!

I really like the white paint (matching the grill) around the headlights -- really a nice touch you don't see too many people doing these days.

Looking fine Brian! My 56 is the same model... right down to the fender mounted spare. I'm doing the same with the white trim.

Thanks for the nice comments all. An update--I called Jim Carter to check if they were processing my order, and low and behold, was told they did not have any in stock. I could send them my old starter and they would rebuild it but a long turn around time. Cancelled the order, and contacted a couple others with no luck. THEN called the Filling Station--they had one, shipped it today, and i should have it not later than Thursday. Real anxious for Dusty to "hit the trail"!
