Greetings from the Baltic! Im home again! YES!
Nothing special happening on the sea. Slight
storm but nothing to fear! Again thanks to
all for the NICE BIRTHDAY GREETINGS! That was great.
Now Im home and opened up the STOVEBOLT PAGES
for an evening of interesting entertainment!

I noticed the thread on Trailers! OOPS here is an other winter project knockin at the door while home! Can anyone tell me where I can get info on Blueprints, Photos or maybe you folks have built one and have photos of them. Now its Trailer Fever!!
Here in Reindeer Land we have "A LOT" of so called utility trailers with single axles brand new and it would be easy to take of the sides and build a real nice tear drop out of it. Also we have trailer manufacturing here so parts would be
found almost in every corner of this Hockey Land
Safety inspections are tough so I would have to
show prints with length and width and weight so on first before constuction but it sure would be fun to do this here. And again be the almost only Crazy Finn with A Genuine Teardrop Trailer and Proud at that!
That way when my 46 most likely will be complete
in early spring Id have a trailer to match!

Norse, you amaze me with what you pull out of your hat! Thanks for the leads. I too have admired these trailers, but I gotta get the horse done before I can start on the carriage.

Dad bought one of those when I was a kid. It had aluminum siding, and instead of a door on the drivers side there was a jalousie window. I'm thinking it was a little taller than the one in the plans. But it was 35 years ago when he sold it.

Mom & dad slept in the trailer, us kids had the tent.

I almost forgot to add a truck part to this thread. We towed that trailer all over the mountains in Colorado with our 64 C-10, 230 and 3 speed. We marched up Wolf Creek pass at 50 in second gear. We also ran out of gas heading down off of Grand Mesa. Coasted some 20 miles before we found a gas station.

Classic, Norse! Now you've put my COE plans on the back burner. I've kinda had one of these in my mind for a long time. Couldn't find decent plans to build on. Now ya've gone and done it. The Canary goes into storage in about three hours freeing up the shop. I start it Monday. Anyone who is actually going to do one, please stay in touch and compare notes ...

Hey Norse! I went out and did some trailer frame
hunting! :p and found a brand new frame, axle
and wheels but Im going to get some nice fenders
most likely from the States to match with my 46 and 37!

Going to the local lumber yard to get some ideas
for wood and... plus I contacted a decorative wood worker and carpenter who,s a family friend for some assistance. Especially to use his shop

with a company called Farm Pro Trailers. Id like to share this with you since this is the place I got the trailer frame and axle plus other parts to start the building of the Tear Drop. On the site press "Perävaunut" on the left and it will give you the different model Utility Trailers
available. The site is in Finnish but you can see
the trailers we build here.

These trailers are high quality and built with safety in mind as well. I checked with local safety inspectors and they gave me the go ahead to
build on the frame of these since they have already been approved by the Safety Inspectors.

Looking at that 75L, I thought the disconnect handle above the tow ball was a nice feature! They look like very sturday, and (truck related), that Teardrop would look GREAT behind either the '37 or '46!

We pull a 1970 Appleby pop up on vacation. It weighs about 300 pounds and sleeps 4. We sure get a lot of odd looks when we pull into the campground these days. Last year was West Yellowstone....surrounded by 30 foot RV's. This year was Michigan and more 30 footers.

Norse, the plans for the Tear Drop are great. I would build one if I did not have the little camper already.

I had a vintage trailer I pulled with my 49 and sold it about a month ago when I found a teardrop locally for sale. It is in great shape and only needs light restoration. I will be camping in it by spring. It is a 1953 and has 6 lug gm wheels. I have a set of artillery wheels that I am going to powder coat for it with wide whitewalls to match my truck. Wish I new how to post pictures here.

Brian, Here is what I send to everyone that asks me.Or go to Stovebolts "how to" section and also Norse has directions at the bottom is this page. ............................................................................................... First you have to put your photo in a place that will store it for you. I use Villagephoto.com . Register there and use their free service for photo hosting.
Where it says "My album "in Village photo, click on the word "photo". If will say you have no photo in there but them click on "upload pictures" scrole down till it says "browse". click on that... Find your photo you have in your computer. Click "open" and it will end up next to the word "browse"....below that it will say "upload".. click that. After it uploads, click on" click here to continue".... Your picture should show up as a small , thumb nail size picture, click under the picture where it says " Image URL and Tools"..... scrole down where it says "public Image url" ..... Take that Hppt and copy and paste it so you have it on the end of your pointer. Then go to Stovebolt to post . If you want to show the picture, click on "Image" at the bottom. when the window comes up, click on the blinking window and backspace to clear it. Paste or type in your Http address. It is a long one and must be exact. Thats why it is better to copy and paste it. Then click "OK" and "post your reply". That should do it. I know it sounds complicated, but really, its easy. What about a teardrop themed camper shell/truck topper for a stovebolt? Would it look too goofy? Would you have enough headroom if you made it to clear the cab? Would you have to drop the tail gate to have enough room? Would it work with the slanted bedsides on pre 54? Can someone photo shop a teardrop onto an AD or Art deco truck? OK back to work and no photo shopping on company time.

OK, after some help from Norse and some research I find there are a Gazillion builder/plans out there ... anyone have any info on one that floats to the top?

OK, here I go ... just purchased and downloaded the Kuffel Creek 10ft Comet Teardrop Trailer Plans. I'll be picking up some material tomorrow and get this thing on the road (so to speak).

While driving through Missouri last Thursday on I-44, I saw an extremely nice 1948 Chevy truck pulling a brand new teardrop trailer. Unfortunately, the tongue broke off of the trailer and rolled down into the ditch next to the road. I don't remember the trailer manufacture's name, but in was built somewhere in Indiana. I stopped to help the guy, but what can you do other than help him get the trailer back to the should of the road. Please be careful in you trailer selection or build. This could have been much more serious of an accident.

Reference Phil's post - I'll bet the tongue was butt-welded to the front of the frame without any gusseting or bracketing of any kind, with the weight and strain of the tongue resting on just TWO welds! The tongue (on ANY bumper-pull trailer!) should be a wrap-around style going from the front of the frame to just in front of the trailer axle spring perch and welded every place the tongue touches the frame!!! It's amazing some of the totally unsafe crap people pull behind another vehicle!!!

Finn, that is one nice-looking aluminum trailer! What is the price of that in Euros/USD???

I just found a teardrop Style trailer at a Garage Sale. It is a 63 Trailorboat "Rolling cottage".
After purchasing it, I found out that they only made 400-ish between 61 & 63, and that there are only 16 still known to exist!!!!!!!! Trailorboats came from the factory with a form fitted row boat mounted on the roof. It is so form fitted that it just looks like the trailers roof line!!!
It is so rare, I have been asked to put it in the NW car Collectors show this coming weekend in Portland!!! The people that asked me, are even paying my way to have it in there!!!!

You guys are making me wanna build a teardrop again, and I had just got over it. We also already have a little camper so it's not even a need but I've been trying to talk a couple different buddies into building em' for them.

We have a Scamp which is a knockoff of a Canadian Broler camper, the main reason I bought it was cause it had similar lines as the AD trucks, one of these days when I paint my truck I wanna strip the Scamp down and paint it silver and add lines like an airstream Camper.

I have been thinking about building the shell and then putting it on the 18Ft flat bed I already own. I would need to build it long enough for my 6'7" frame but that would still leave room in front for one or two ATVs.

When I want to haul a car or truck I just lift the shell off and I am on my way.

oh man this is tempting...thinking I might have to do one of these. I wonder if there is anyone who makes a living out of building these and selling them, more mass-produced, but not quite. Seems to me they would be awfully popular.

Buy them as finished trailers, too. After selling the fifth wheel, I think we may go back to a much smaller, simpler rig like that. Of course, the Cummins_Dodge may be a tad overkill for a teardrop, but... My Hudsons, the son's '46 Bolt, or my '66_Dodge would pull it just fine. My wife never lets me forget about trading our little '47 teardrop for a streetrod "project" that never transpired. She hated that little car, too!!! What did I pay for the trailer originally?? Eighty dollars, and I had to haul off the trash inside of it to get it. This was in 1987. Yeah, she never forgot that little deal!!!
