Hello all, When I was 15 my old man bought me a 49 chevy. I worked on that thing forever but just did not have the cash to get it done. Needless to say the old man got it done. Well i'm now 30 and got this 61 chevy to try agian. Any advice for a new guy.

What are your plans there, hombre? Drive it and work on it? Not driveable yet? What's the overall condition? What's in the worst shape? What's in the best shape?

Restoring any old truck can be a long and arduous journey. But it'seven tougher for 60 and 61 chevies and GMC's. You'll find out. But your truck will be more unique in the end. If you have the original hood, keep it. Look for rust under the roof over the windshield. That must be reapired properly. And then you'll have the usual arears to look for.....the dogleg pillar posts running down into the vent area and lower fenders. I'd also recommend getting that truck up and running first. If you want to modify, at least you'll be enjoying the truck as you work on it. If you go for a frame off resto, you may never enjoy the vehicle before your wife forces you to sell that pile of junk that used to be your truck that now sits behind the garage. grin

PS the windshields in clear are brutal-about $1100.00. the green tint or shaded ones are about $350 plus &110 shipping from places like Brothers and others.

1961 K10 4x4 longbed. 6 year resto, never driven it, just came back from the paint booth. Painted green, the color of money. But man does it look awesome. showroom floor stock.

Congrats Bill!

And welcome to the Stovebolt Page!!

Be sure to check out our Tech Tips Page (Especially the tip on "How do I start a restoration?"). Then, check out our Links Page for parts and other sites that you'll find helpful. One of our favorites is done by our fellow stovebolter and friend of the Stovebolt Page, Jolly -- he has a great site for those '60-'66 trucks.

And be sure to ask lots of questions and send a picture or two, plus the story of you and your truck to us so we can add you to the Gallery. We love as-is photos and in-progress restorations, so don't be shy or think we only like trailer queens.

Speaking of the Gallery, also check there and look at the other '61's. Be sure to check with the other '61 gtuys for advice and tips, too. That's what we have 'em there for.

Again, welcome and thanks for joining the crew here -- we hope you enjoy being a part of the gang.

Regards,
John
