would any one know what disc rotors fit on the front axle of a 57 1/2 ton chevy truck. :confused:

you can buy a disck brake conversion braket kit from classic performance products.

Are you replacing some disc that were already on the truck?

a variety of different ones are possible, depending on the adapters used, most of which use modern 5 bolt stuff , tho' I have seen some that take 6 bolt someplace

Most of the newer trucks that have 6 lugs and a hat style rotor will fit. Modifications may be required. For example, the center hole in the rotor will have to be enlarged. I was looking at the rotors and calipers off a Toyota 4Runner the other day and I think I will use those. The calipers are 4 piston, makes the caliper bracket easier to install.

So you are saying the 4 Runner front disk will fit the six bolt Chevy hub. Then one would need to modify for the caliper? I am interested in this. I have a 52 GMC Suburban and want to change the front end to disk brakes and keep the conversion on the "economical" side of things. I know they sell a kit that does the whole shebang for about $400.00 but I do not wish to part with this much at the moment. I did see a post somewhere, where a dude put the front disks from a Nisson Hard Body on a truck and used a MII master cylinder. I think he had to make some sort of bearing spacers too. I will have to try to find the link to that one article.

BigSix302 I used a disc form a mid 70's 4 wheel drive chevy on my 53. I used the origenal hub and just replaced the bearings to the roller type. I also used a dual master cylinder from a mid 70's truck without a power bouster. Had a bracket made for the spindles and it all bolted right up. I went with these parts because they are readily available and they are cheap.

Oh I forgot to tell you that this kept my 6 lug pattern.

Sorry...haven't been here in a while. City came down on me for too much stuff sittin around. Been workin to clean things up. Sorta forgot about the post here. But anyway...that sounds really cool! I will have to get otu and see what I can find for that conversion. Did you take any pictures of the install? I am really Jonesin to do this this spring sometime. I would like to start working towards getting it all ready to bolt on. Thanks for your input too by the way.

You said you had a bracket made for the spindles. Did you take it to a local shop? Who did your design? I'm in the same situation. I'd like to update brakes without changing front end.
