When he first started drag racing,he was using a 261 Chevy, heavily modified stock head, turning 6000 rpm.Tons of money and maybe 290 hp for an all out drag motor that runs only for 13.5 seconds. But he never mentioned crank or rod breakage. He claims a turbo or mechanical supercharger on an engine like a 235/261 makes sense, get good power despite the poor head design. And make the power at lower RPM's,much less stress on the rods and crank.Of course this requires expensive forged pistons, and the easily adapted better GMC oil pump. But mistakes with supercharging can ventilate the block or pistons in a NY minute if the boost is too high causing detonation, but if ya got money to burn on old engines...................... | | | | | Joined: Dec 2003 Posts: 1,554 Shop Shark | | Shop Shark Joined: Dec 2003 Posts: 1,554 | Let me see?Quickest way to blow up a 235 or 216.Take it out to the back 40.Start it up,put a brick on the gas pedal holding it to full throttle. Then back off about a hundred feet and watch. | | | | | Joined: Oct 2002 Posts: 4,066 Bolter | | Bolter Joined: Oct 2002 Posts: 4,066 | or just let my wife drive it,,, Redryder pixMy HotrodA veteran - whether active duty, retired, national guard, or reserve - is someone who, at one point in his or her life, wrote a blank check made payable to The 'United States of America', for an amount of "up to and including my life."I am fighting cancer and I am winning the fight | Pain is part of life; misery is an option. | | | | | Joined: Aug 2000 Posts: 523 Member | | Member Joined: Aug 2000 Posts: 523 | Quickest way to kill your Chevy is:

The poor thing screamed for about 1/2 hour, didn't blow up, so they gave up and shut it down. He thought - oh well, maybe the car isn't so bad, so he drove it for about a year and then sold it.
I guess in stock form, engines can handle that type of abuse. I think he should have advanced the timing as much as possible before the "run" -that should do it!
