I did a compression check on my 49 3600, it has a 55 235 6cyl engine. The cylinder farthest back, I don't what the number of the cylinder would be had 0 compression. The other five ranged between 125-127psi. The engine runs rough but does not smoke. Any advice on what the problem may be?
Thanks!! | | |

The rotor will point to the #6 plug wire terminal on the distributor cap. Both valves will be closed. Shoot some air into the cyliinder and listen to the intake and the exhaust to see where the air is escaping--that is the valve not seating.

Thanks for the input. I'll try what you suggest. However, I may just pull the head and have it fixed. Are rebuilt heads available?

If there is a significant difference in the wet/dry readings the problem will be rings or pistons. If no change it is likely valve related. Then check valve clearances, rocker arm condition and cam lift. You still might need to pull the head, but at least you will know why!
