...for my Old-School truck...

I never paid attention to that old, non-descript shop before: brown aluminum siding, large 'motor' sign made of styrofoam...

I stopped-by today with the '53, met the owner (in his mid 60's), and stayed for half an hour talking Stovebolts!
He KNOWS Stovebolts. Thoroughly...
He says everybody wanted 'Pontiac' motors back then! (261's). He knows about the 'captain bars', the steam holes, etc...

I was extatic...

I'll be dropping my 261 block this week.
The have sleeves IN STOCK!!
It'll be cleaned, sleeved (2 cylinders) and the sleeves bored.
100CDN$ + 50$CDN for bore at .040, per sleeve... Sounds good!

Of course not...

'Cause nothing looks like a dressed-up Bolt with twin carbs, aluminum goodies and split exhaust...

And that's a good enough reason!

Had a retired Chev truck mechanic out here who had worked on ADs all his life. Nothing including bribery, threats, money, or dancing girls, would make him want to look at an AD truck again. Too bad but for me it was a good lesson as I learned to do those mechanical jobs myself.

Good lord! There must be some very ugly dancing girls 'out there', Olblu!

Just put the 1st hundred miles on my 261 that has been "built" as you describe. +.030 overbore (no sleeves necessary), new valve guides and valves, new rocker arm shafts and rockers, "bulldog" can from Langdon's, Offy intake, two Carter/Webbers, Fenton headers. Really sound good and drives better.

Be prepared to do a lot of grinding on the intake to clear the headers.

Good luck, you'll love the result.

Don't grind too much off the bottom of the intake where it hits the Fentons, as you can grind through. A better solution is to angle mill the header flanges slightly to tip the headers away from the intake. That and some light grinding of the intake should get rid of the interference.

Whizzerrick I wouldn't say they are ugly, but they sure ain't as nice as those in Montreal. i know, I lived there all my life. I miss them and smoked meat.
