What a great site! I bought a 1952 3/4 ton Chevrolet p/u a couple of years ago. My wife, kids, and I have enjoyed the old "Brown Mule" (a nickname provided by a co-worker) very much - Christmas parades, car shows etc... He is now in the garage in many pieces as we are doing a frame up restoration as a father and sons and brother and grandpa and wife project. My question is - though I find 1/2 ton brake parts readily available I have had no luck with 3/4 ton brake parts. Do they exist? If so - where can I get some? Also can I get rear gears which will allow us to go over 41.386 miles per hour? Thanks for any help.

Brownmule -- welcome to the Stovebolt Page and Semper Fi!

You're in luck! I have both a '49 1-ton and a '49 1.5-ton and I've found all my brake parts at either American Classic, Jim Carter or NAPA (Mostly NAPA).

Also, if you're out of Schlitz on any of those, look around for the local shop that works on the big trucks (semi's). My local big truck mechanic, Mr. Cusic, was able to reline my brake shoes for the big '49 and find me a few other things as well.

Don't be afraid to call any of the parts vendors and ask them about stuff for your truck -- just because the catalogs cater to 1/2-tons doesn't mean they don't have stuff for your truck. And be sure to check out the other parts of this web site -- especially the Links Page (link is in the menu at the top of this page).

Again, welcome to our web site and keep asking questions. There are stupid questions but I dare you to ask any here!

Oops, I missed the rear end question -- Go to the LInks Page, look up the Parts section and find Patrick's -- Patrick Dykes sells a kit for your rear end that will get you up to modern speeds with your original driveline (requires a 4-speed tranny, though)

I found 3/4 ton 52 brake parts are available through O'REilley, I think it was in the Wagner brake catalog... didn't help me much since I was looking for the 1.5 ton brake parts  ... but I know that they have the 3/4 ton ones at the wharehouses.

I'm gonna recondition mine through the white post (in the links section) instead. won't cost much more than all new ones, and has a better shot at being able to get help with them if something breaks.

just my $.02

I still get parts for my '48 1.5 ton through my local parts houses. Also, most of the popular mail order parts companies offer parts for the 3/4 and 1 tons. Try Brothers Truck Parts, Chevy Duty, The Truck Shop, etc.
Good luck and welcome a board. Make sure you send some pictures over to the gallery,
Scott
