i was checking out this 60's impala on ebay the other day and saw that it came with a SWEET looking factory tilt steering colomn. it looked just like the colomns that are on the 60-66 trucks with the exception of the tilt. i could be wrong but it looked pretty close, was there ever this option for the trucks as well or has anyone made the switch?

Became an option for Chevy trucks in 1970.

It didn't come as an option. There are some 67-72 chevy vans that did have a tilt column that will bolt right into the 60-66, including the wiring connectors.

I put a 71 automatic column in my 64. Had to change connectors, fabricate shift lincage and make a simple mount. The length of the shaft between the steering box and column is different. If you drill out the plastic pins that allow the shaft to collapse in an accident, you MIGHT be able to slide it to the length you need.

wow 67-72 vans eh? that is awesome, that would be quite a cool modification. i got the three speed on the column. ya think the 67-72 three speed is identicle to the 60-66? everything looks the same to me, except the later column shifters are curved and not straight.

My '72 C10 has a factory tilt-column, but I understand it was a rare option.

It's true. I really don't do anything but browse the Internet looking for trouble...
