I recently took my grill and outside door handles in to be rechromed.I was quoted at $400 canadian to have this done. Does this sound resonable or am I over paying? Thanks in advance: Stuart

sounds fair for a grill around here, if they do good work - never cheap unless ya settle for a bad job!

Stuart, it depends on the grille you have and what they are going to do to it. Does it need repairs, is it rusty etc? Is it for both the upper and the lower? There was some healthy debates on the subject of who and how much to pay. Have you seen his work? Will he give you a written qoute of what he is to do and when it will be done? What is his warranty policy etc?

Upper and lower,Repair about 10 small dings and 5 stress cracks, Very little rust.Handles are pitted and he is going to grind smooth Yes I got a written quote. The shop is a very large metal shop and the claim to be the largest facility in Western Canada.They usually don't do small projects and started to recomend another shop.But I think I lucked out because the head plater took intrest and knew right away it was from a 46. You better jump all over that deal. That's about 325 US. Apparently there are no "EPA"-type rules in Canada. My '45 grille was completely disassembled and chromed. reassembled with ss fasteners. And it sure didn't cost no 400 bucks! Even if yours turns out to be a crappy job, it'll still look nice for a while. That is quite a deal and you should be signing up immediately! There will be areas of the grille that can't be plated. When you get it back, use some clear paint and touch up those areas right away. It will stop any surface rust from starting.

The guys are giving you good advice! I had a quote on my 46 grill of over $900. I went with a repro which is no where near the quality of the original.

I've kept the old one in case I find someone that has a price like you have found.

I have heard you can get them done much cheaper in Canada. Other than this has anyone else confirmed this. I don't live far from Windsor.

My '45 grill had some repairs done on upper and lower (ding removal and a little welding). They did a beutiful job for $450.00, and it included polishing that skinny 3 piece trim. I thought that was real reasonable price. I love those grills.
