The floor in the bed has deteriorated to the point where I can't tell what kind of wood it is. I'm sure someone out there will know whether the originals were oak, pine, hemlock ??? Thanks, GaBe | | | | | Joined: Sep 2003 Posts: 324 Shop Shark | | Shop Shark Joined: Sep 2003 Posts: 324 | Original were pine painted black. Most use unpainted wood of your choice during restoration. | | | | | Joined: Feb 2004 Posts: 110 Wrench Fetcher | | Wrench Fetcher Joined: Feb 2004 Posts: 110 | GaBe,
Before you buy wood for your bed, check the price of the wood that you will need and compare it to the bed wood from Chevy Duty. The wood for my '65 bed plus shipping was cheaper than the wood cost at Lowes and it was already routed and ready to finish and install. Also, check the price of a complete bed kit that comes with the strips and bolts. Probably the cheapest route. They have both pine and oak. If you are going to keep the truck a long time and it will be in the weather, I would suggest oak. If you are going to show it, You might want polished stainless steel strips. Have a good day.

That will tell for sure, wheather it's a 1 Ton or not. If the series designation emblems are not on the hood, the gvw rating on the ID tag, in the driver door jamb, will tell you. | | | | | Joined: Jun 2000 Posts: 2,773 'Bolter | | 'Bolter Joined: Jun 2000 Posts: 2,773 | If it's a one ton, the bed is 9 feet long. 3/4 ton bed is 7-1/2 feet.
