The big word INLET is stamped on the back of mine. The previous owner had them installed. I would have noticed before it left the muffler shop. My question is: Is this going to affect the performance of the engine any? Should I yake it and have them turned around? I'm going to have to carry it anyway and have the tail pipes moved so I can bolt up a receiver hitch.
Mike | | | | | Joined: Dec 2004 Posts: 452 Member | | Member Joined: Dec 2004 Posts: 452 | I'm no muffler expert, but looking at the cutaway pictures of various Flowmasters on their website, it appears that, given the design of the chambers and deflectors in these mufflers, flow direction is very important to proper operation. These mufflers are supposed improve performance by aiding in exhaust gas scavenging. It looks like backwards flow would be detrimental to performance, and probably sound quality too.

Or illiterate one! Oh well, add it to the list of other things I'm correcting that have been half assed on this truck. I'm a firm believer that if it's worth doing then DO IT RIGHT! And yes, the darn things are welded in.

The people he took it to had no idea what they were doing. I'm no welder but I can stick pipe together better than they did. I'd rather take it to a reputable muffler shop and have it done RIGHT.
