I have a saganaw 3 speed in my 66 chevrolet C-10. Can anybody tell me what size of a clutch I have in this thing. I need to upgrade it to a better clutch because under full throttle I get slippage. I am not sure if I can get a bigger clutch or not.

Weak springs in the pressure plate and a worn clutch disc will make the clutch slip under throttle. Do you need a bigger clutch, or do you just need to replace the one you have ?

...Or just adjust it?

I have adjusted the clutch and it only has 1500 miles on it since it was relplaced. I think that it is under designed for my application. I think I need a bigger clutch with heavier springs.

2prfxn, does this truck have a stock engine? If it is stock, and the clutch is stock, it is plenty big enough. Unless, you are hauling hugh overloads with it. In that case you need a bigger truck. Also, if the clutch has slipped much at all, it will need to be replaced. Adjustment won't help. When you pull the clutch, don't forget to inspect the trannie too. Make sure the input shaft bearings and splines aren't worn out. That can cause difficult shifts. Like hanging in gear, and hard to get into gear, and clutch slippage. I got in a hurry once changing a clutch and learned that lesson the hard way, on my class 8 truck! $$$ Mike

Late model master brake and booster tells me to look for at least front discs.

Very nice looking truck with before and after pictures. You asking us what size clutch you have is telling me that you may have had someone else do the engine for you.
Doesn't a '66 have a non-syncro 1st 3 spd. It seems like that would be the last trans you would want behind a supercharger.
Either talk to the guy that did your supercharger or call one of the big clutch boys. Centerforce, Hays or Mcleod and then stick a Tremec or Richmond behind it.

It sounds like a un-adjusted clutch or a weak clutch cover,,,,possibly the wrong release bearing.

You are correct Richard. The 66 is a non-sync 1st speed and yes it is the last trans that you would want behind the engine. I am the one responsible for the supercharged engine. Did the work myself. The trans is the last mod that really needs to be completed. I have been considering the 700r4 for the overdrive capabilty. I can not afford a richmond (6 speed) which would be awsome. What kind of tremec would bolt to the stock bell housing? Do they make an adapter plate?

I don't think this violates the no advertising rule, because no one on the links page would have this sort of thing. It does however violate the no F#@* rule.
Mcleod shows a scattershield type bell housing with adapter for the tremec.

In Hot Rod Sept '01 they installed a Tremec TKO from

www.hanlonmotorsports.com in place of a muncie 4spd.

This guy sells them, modified to bolt up to the Chevy bell housing and redrills the rear mount pad for a chevy mount. In your case the stock bell and mounts would make this a much easier swap than an automatic. It comes with mech speedo adapter that he gears for you. You will however probably have to move the shifter forward for more bucks. You'll have to shorten drive shaft, but you would for a 700R4 also.
This trans is suppose to easily handle 450 lb torque. There is an other company that adapts them to bolt up behind big block mopars.
