I am curious about something with the instrument clusters in the dashes of the 1960-1966 trucks.
Now, I know the trucks came in different trim levels, base or custom cab. Maybe another one...
My '65 is a base cab, no frills, nothing fancy. The metal part around the instrument cluster in my truck, where all of the switches mount... is painted black, it looks good to me.
I was noticing some other instrument clusters for sale, online... and they were gray, like a brushed aluminum, or maybe it was just painted.
I am curious if this part was different between the trim levels? I've always thought it was black...
Anyway, I'm just curious.
have a good one...

Mine happened to be light blue since the PO painted everything in sight that color. It is now black since I repainted it when I upgraded my gauges. | | | | | Joined: Nov 2006 Posts: 213 Wrench Fetcher | | Wrench Fetcher Joined: Nov 2006 Posts: 213 | I think you guys are right. I would think these were installed after the trucks were painted. So they were probably all the same color black or silver. Mine is painted red like the truck, but I know it was repainted by the PO. I've seen pics of other trucks with the white like that.

The other one was a rebuilt unit from a '60-'63. Both had the silver/grey look.

It prolly boils down to whatever they had on hand that day. Just about every 63-64 I've seen had a white column, even std cabs-but my burb had a fawn column, the other 2 trucks(one std, one CC) both had white-built @St Louis, the burb was built in Cali. | | | | | Joined: Apr 2007 Posts: 21 Apprentice | | Apprentice Joined: Apr 2007 Posts: 21 | My '63 St. Louis std. cab has the white around the cluster carried to the control knobs and a white column. | | |
