I was looking through Brothers new catalog last night and it lists the ’47-‘49 speedo at 80 mph and the ‘50–‘53 at 90 mph. I’m sure my ’50 is original and it’s has an 80 mph face. Anyone know any more about this discrepancy, is Brothers wrong?

Brothers is probably wrong. I think the 90 mph speedo came around in 1952.

One other thing occured to me while thinking about this, why did they give you a speedo that read 80 or 90 in a vehicle that could only go 45 or 50? Must have been a sales gimick.

Denny, the speedometer's top speed was changed to 90 mph from 80 mph in 1952. Also, the high-beam indicator was moved to top, from the bottom of the speedometer gauge the same year.

Now that was a good move, I find myself having to lean over the horn to tell if my BRIGHTs are on. Ahhhh yes, those little details!
I've been busy trying to catch up on all the particulars of the ’50, 3604 so I’m not up on all the options they may have offered on the 1/2 tonners. A quick look shows me that you cold get a 3.54, 3.72 or a 4.11 in the passenger cars, Did they offer a higher gear for the later 3100 models? If they did, that could would explain why the speedo reads as high as it does on the AD’s.

Some late production '51's, had the 90mph speedo, & push button door handles. Besides this little tidbit, '52 was indeed the official year for the 90 mph. Speedometer.

Same here Ken in my '50, 3604, I think Spanky and the gang have it nailed down.
Brothers technical writers need to do a little more research before they publish their catalogs. A lot of guys take what's in the vendor’s catalogs as gospel and that just muddies up the water all over again.
