I have a '50 3100 and have a deluxe fresh air heater. My heater has the cable setup for the defrost. I know other years just have an arm to switch to defrost. Does anyone know which years had the cable and which years had the arms? Thanks in advance.

On a 1954 Deluxe Heater (Air Flow Heater, vs the standard Recirculating Heater), the cable opens a door on the front of the heater. The defrost door-deflector is opened and closed with an arm.

You cannot see the cable in the upper heater in this 1954 picture but you can see the defroster arm.

Thanks, this shows me that I do not have a '54 heater. I do not have the door out front. Mine is a Deluxe, but rather than the arm to move the defrost door, it is set up for a cable to move it, ie clamp for cable sheaf and arm has hole for cable. Still trying to figure out what year this was.

That heater was probably used on all of the AD trucks, I know it was also used on the 54. There were three types of heaters... recirculating, fresh air (the one you have)and the deluxe which was mostly on 54s and some 53s had it. The 53 and 54 could have had any of the three. Your truck could have had the recirculating or the fresh air.

Is there anywhere that the different heater options are pictured/described for the 1950 year? I haven’t found them in the Shop, Assembly or Accessory manuals? The Accessory Price list shows two options for a truck, Heater & Defroster –Air Flow and Heater & Defroster – Dash, what was the difference between the two?
My truck has two hoses coming off the heater and going to the defroster outlets, does that mean that I have a Heater & Defroster Dash?

There were only two GM accessory Heater/Defroster units in 1950 (late 1949-1950). The "Outside-Air Ventilator, Heater and Defroster" (this does not have the cable-controlled door on the front face - the cable controls the defroster in 1950); and, the "Dash Reciculating Heater and Defroster Unit" - this is the more common, less expensive unit that has no cable-control and has a deflector-lever on the body of the unit, for the defroster).

I will post scans in a few hours of the original 1950 heater/defrosters and original price list.

Is that out of the “Salesman’s, Truck Data Book”? I have one of those coming, but I will download the images and add them to my folder.
Looks like I have the Outside-Air Ventilator, Heater and Defroster, god I hope the core is alright in it, I’ll bet they are hard to find.

Looking for a source for 57 chevy 3100 series pick up - heater core for standard heater. I have the old one, but no local radiator shops will touch it. I am in Ft. Lauderdale but will be happy to have a source anywhere. Thanks,
