Hello all ! !
I finally got the Old Air sytem installed in my 1965 C10.
Most of the time was spent fabricating a set of alternator brackets. I like doing that sort of thing, and I am cheap.
Using their alternator bracket would have saved a LOT of time.
Disclaimer:
Bear in mind that all of the following are probably due to production variables on my vehicle that are beyond the resonable scope Old Air could be expected to accomodate for.
1) I had to modify the (Alan Groves?) compressor bracket the kit came with. The hole thru which the water pump heater hose fitting went needed to be clearanced slightly.
I don't know if any vendor makes a fitting with a longer nipple, but that would solve the problem.
The hoel in my water pump may have been misdrilled, who knows?
2) The template to cut the two holes thru the radiator support were a little off. I would suggest mocking the condensor unit into place and double checking the measurments.
I should have thought of this beforehand.
See disclaimer above.
3) The adel clamp didn't line up with the factory dimple. No problem.
See disclaimer above.
Other than that, a good system.
I will post more when I get it charged and chilling.
Some things I would like to see:
1) An option for chrome on the control panel.
2) A "better" angle of approach on the defrost lever cable attachment. It is a little low now and causes the cable to hang below the dash.
I may mod it and pass the info along to Old Air.
If you have any questions about the install please feel free to ask.
Pictures when I can.
Thanks,
Mike

Crowbar, what engine do you have? I have a '64 swb w/a 250, and I am planning on adding air.

Yes, if you have the deluxe heater control in the truck, you save about 50 bucks and use the existing control, from what I have read.
I had the pull knob, so I had to get the new control.

I have a 350 in the truck. Old Air does have a straight six bracket.
Check out their website.
I would post it, but am not sure of the advertising clause.

No, I don't work for them ! ! grin

The system won't work with the stock pull-knob.
Bummer.
I suppose with some engineering at home the pull knob could be made to work.
Yesterday I got the rest of the system in, (ducts and hoses).
1) Folllow the instructions in order.
Install the left hand defrost hose before the control unit !
6'-6", 250 lbs and big hands don't fit under the dash with ease ! !
The instructions probably cover that, but I guess I got sidetracked.
Today is the day I get it charged, so tomorrow I will have a report.
Again, if you have any questions, give a yell.

I ordered a kit for my 71 C-10 from Old Air a week ago. Am really looking forward to a nice cool cab.

Thanks for your observations, keep the info coming.

I got the system charged yesterday, and if anyone wants to hear the rant about the place I took it to, let me know.
The system works fine, though I need to work on my air management a bit.
The condenser has to have LOTS of airflow across it, and my system is not there yet.
A shroud along with the thermal fan should help a lot. Now I need to build a shroud.
Anyone know who sells a shroud for these trucks that use a later thermo fan?
The stock radiator is a little taxed with all the condenser heat, and I will update on that when I get the shroud built.
There should be some pics of my install as soon as I get them transfered.
I also need to do all the other LITTLE things, like seal all the whistles, gaps, and leaks, tint the windows, insulate the firewall..blah blah blah...
The ride to work was pleasant, for change.
More later.

My bro just went electric on his 69 C10. He loves it, better gas mileage+ much better cooling, & his had all shrouds, fan etc all good shape. Got to have a good alternator tho. I am in the same boat as you(no shroud, reg fan), my 64 cools OK now but when I get the A/C going I know it won't. Thinking about an electric. I can only imagine the hassles you encountered getting it charged. Brian

No real hassles getting it charged, just the fact of being charged triple what the shop paid for the 134a.
15 bucks a pound ! !
I converted my '85 Blazer to 134a for $34, total!
Live and learn.
