Ok, I admit it, i'm young and i want a HUGE stereo to go in my truck. Not only cause i like loud music, but because i need something to cover up the church choir in the transmission. I'm going to put 6x9s in the doors, and a new reciever in the dash. (the previous owner already cut a hole where the old radio was.) Where are good places to add more speakers? Mainly subwoofers and additional multichannel speakers?

Before you start cutting holes in doorpanels, consider every alternative. Speakers won't sound their best when pointed at your knees, and they'll be visible to anyone walking past. I once "hid" a multichannel sound system in a pickup by building a shallow overhead console for the mids, flush mounted to the angled panel with mesh over it that matched the appearance of the headliner. I also put 1" dome tweeters in the rear corners of the roof. The owner kept the stock AM radio in the dash and installed a hidden stereo with a wireless remote. Subs and amps can go under/behind the seat, so from outside the truck there is no evidence of a high-dollar system. The best part was that we only had to drill holes, no cutting of the original steel was required.

Hey, I'm looking to put a stereo in my '60 Apache. I want to have a stock looking deck but with a little more modern features, like FM radio and RCA pre-outs incase I want to expand my system, or add a CD changer. If I find a deck I plan on mounting speakers under the dash. And maybe putting a smaller sub under the seat.

I did some experimenting with speakers in my truck and discovered that any more than 2 speakers (not counting sub-woofs) just added confusion to the sound. A truck cab is too small for more than two speakers ... the sound bounces around too much and clarity is lost.

I put a simple stereo radio/cassette player in my truck and a pair of Sony Xplod speakers -- in the floor kickpanels (way better than in the doors) and it turned out great!
