I just had to tell someone who'd care! I just took my first trip on the road with my 49 3100! It was awesome! I only went 2-3 miles but she ran and shifted and stopped great!
Of course, she's still rough and not licensed, the hood was held down with a piece of 16 gauge wire, the speedo didn't work (must be at the tranny the gauge and cable are good), gas gauge stayed at full (think I can fix that too), wired the tail lights wrong, oh and have I previously mentioned that the PO removed the seat and riser so I have a late model bench that sits(or should I say rocks) on a studebaker hubcap, 4x4 and another piece of wood? It's a little hard to see cause it looks like someone put a slug through the front driverside window. I gotta get used to using the side mirror, no rearview mirror.
But I don't care, she runs and runs good!
I was only gone for about 5 minutes but my husband came looking for me cause we've never had it out that long!!
Can't stop grinning!

thats cool michelle. talk about timing just had the maiden voyage in my 56 3100 stepside friday. what a blast.all the looks one gets driving some thing old.yes i know all about the can"t stop grinning part, was doing just that the whole time driving it. happy motoring.

I think that joy of the first ride keeps all of us with piles of parts in the garage chipping away. Gotta put in the hours if you want that ride. I look forward to joining the club and posting a message much like yours, though I have many nights in the shop before that!

Thats great, I also started up my 1st (im 15 & 3/4) Vechile about 2 or 3 Weeks ago. My dad and me just sent it of to paint after we sand blasted it. Have fun, I hope to see a pic when its done.

I'd encourage taking your old iron out for longer and longer drives once you get it up to snuff. Nothing like the feeling of independence and knowing that whether you get home or not depends on a tool box and your own two hands!

Good for you!!!,,,there's something about these old Chevy's that's missing in the new trucks,,,The old Chev's,,,well,,in my opinion.,they become part of ya,,,and you have to work them,,I know how you feel Michelle,,they're Fun!!!

Congrats!! My first ride was for the test drive My father in law took it out with be cause I'd never driven a stick shift Let alone a 3 on the tree. I was hooked, tried to be cool with the seller but I was sure I had to have it then.
