If I shake or jostle my coil (in my hand , not on installed), I can hear the oil in it sloshing around. I've never noticed this before on any other coil. There aren't any leaks and everything appears to be working properly so it probably doesn't matter.

Virtually all can-type coils are oil filled. If you can feel the oil sloshing around, the coil has lost some of the volume of oil it was manufactured with. I'd be prone to have a replacement unit handy to keep from getting stranded when (not if) it fails. Jerry

I've never heard that sloshing before so I thought it was unusual.
There hasn't ever been any evidence of oil leakage from the coil, however but I will order a new one

A little Bondo should get that coil working again.
'57 GMC 102, Original 347 V8, HydraMatic, 3.08 rear gear, added A/C, disk front brakes, HEI, AFB carb, '98 Honda Black Currant paint. T-boned and totaled 10/12 '52 GMC 152 Stake Bed, Original 228, SM420, added A/C, HEI, disk front brakes, '67 Chev 3.55 rear gear. Gets used as a real truck.
