I'm trying to figure out what the correct fastener is for the interior windshield 'center' trim pieces for my 47.2. I've tried the windshield trim screws and they seem too long. You can see in the photos the upper and lower locations for the trim pieces. Also, there are two styles: curved originally for the '47.2 (with a hole for a screw) and flat for the 48-55.1 (this style fits under the interior black center trim piece).
Gdads51 has been researching this and I believe he may have photos and information to add.
Let me know if you have any pics or experience of these trim pieces and fasteners, thanks!
Have you looked under the windshield trim that has the holes in the very center below the center trim piece? I'm assuming that there's a hole in the dash for a sheet metal oval head style screw like the surrounding trim uses. It may seem too long because point of the screw is missing the hole in the dash.Try loosening the perimeter trim screws near the center. That may let you get the screw into the dash hole. The two perimeter trim halves look like they might not be correctly aligned. You wouldn't be able to use the later 48-55.1 style without some modifications of the trim as they go underneath the center trim piece and over the perimeter trim. It looks like your center trim piece extends behind the perimeter trim.

No, I bought these pieces well after the windshield interior trim was installed. I've poked around the dash and up by the headliner with a small awl; however, I still couldn't find any hole. You would think it's the same screw. I tried to run the screws in at the same angle without success. I'll do as you suggest and see what I can find.
Hey Andy - Sorry it's taken me a bit to get in here and offer some response to your question. I'll start with some original Chevy resource info specific to your 1947.2.
Below are a couple of screenshots (first 3 below) of your inside windshield trim center cap top and bottom taken from this original 1947 Advance Design Chevrolet Trucks film strip courtesy of Brad Allen.
The first screenshot appears like there is no screw holding down the lower center trim cap. But the next two show the same part with a screw to retain it in place both bottom and top.
The next 2 screenshots come from the original 1947 - The Cab That Breathes film strip, also courtesy of Brad Allen.
Each of those show both lower and upper center trim pieces retained with screws that look the same as the ones for the main trim pieces.
The last tidbit I have to offer involves a closer look at your first "no holes" picture. I zoomed in and snapped a screenshot (last pic below) that appears to look like there is a possible screw hole "dimple" for the lower trim cap that maybe never got drilled when built, which would have prevented proper install of that trim cap. I did not find a similar "dimple" in your upper spot picture, but pretty sure you should have no problem drilling one to secure the upper center trim piece.
Let us know how things turn out.

Thanks for those screenshots, they are a tremendous help! It's nice to have some documentation to verify the placement and orientation of the trim pieces.
I won't be able to get at this until later in the week, but I will, rest assured.
Here's a picture of mine, there's a better picture of the lower one in my build thread, last post of page 6. I don't remember how the screw attaches, but looking at your trim I would think it goes in that last hole of the one side that extends to the center, the hole in the trim. You might be able to knock that hole smaller so the screw grips. Also I notice the lower screw is more horizontal on mine.
Thanks walterhvogel, I appreciate you taking time to participate in the discussion and posting the pictures!
My original question had to do with the correct fastener and it seems that most agree, the regular length trim screws are used. I agree, the last hole is the correct placement and I'll need to drill the holes in the windshield frame to secure the trim pieces.
On my 47 there was no hole for a piece like that. I have found some differences on the 47 that were only that year. By 48 things changed. If you have no hole and I had no hole in my 47, chances are it was not used in 47, only what my picture showed was use. My truck was complete right off the N Dakota farm.
