We are at a quagmire with Spare Tire installation. We can’t find an under- bed spare tire assembly, and the solutions to install a bed side rail adapter places the tire, in my opinion, so far out and forward that it looks ugly and interfering with driver side entry. I don’t have a left hand rear fender with the concaved panel either. My truck has right hand under-bed fuel tank and the truck short/bed.
So I have considered a modern under-bed hoisting mechanism.
Has anyone out there installed an under-bed hoisting mechanism and what would have to be modified to accept one of these hoists? Would I have to resort to modern skinny spare tire?

There was a recent discussion by Bill Hanlon on this very subject. Here is a link.

Don’t think this is viable for ½ ton truck. The installation in his case is on a ¾ ton.

I have used the ford spare tire hoist from a modern superduty on other trucks. Just mount it to a crossmember or weld up a flange onto one and your good to go. Just get the crank tool to wind it.

Here is a link to another thread on the matter, it includes photos of the setup I used on my 1/2 ton, pretty easy….

Hank, looks very nice install. I’m really inclined to use this concept.
Thanks
