Though I have researched the frame / body serial number I still don't understand the mfg sequence number per se. Our 1948 ½ ton S/N is:

3 FP J 15328 ( 3 is St. Louis; F is the year 1948; P is the wheelbase 116"; and J is the mfg Month October.) I understand that all mfg locations started the serial numbers with 1001 so I'm not sure if this truck is the 5328 unit or 15328 unit?

So all I needed to do was to subtract the 1001 from the 15328. So making my unit the 14,327 unit.

Thank you Todd

Yes Sir!
I'm trying to find the production numbers for those years. I have it for my 1950 3100 but I cannot find it right now, sorry.

I found this : in 1950 looks like all the Chevy 1/2 ton 3100 models totaled 227,358 for the year.
Not sure on Year 1948
