Right above the micrometer, Hotrod added a nicely done brass tag which reads: MEASURE WITH A MICROMETER, MARK IT WITH A PIECE OF CHALK, AND CUT IT WITH AN AXE.

Before we all forget, I guess I'd better write up a history of the Ned and who the recipients have been. Y'all know that the base of The Ned (what it started as) was one of Peggy's Dad's bowling trophies ... The winged goddess hurling a bowling bowl that originally adorned the trophy base ended up as a hood ornament on our Hoopty Van (the '88 G-20 Chevy van I got for $200 at the Government surplus auction at Ft Meade, MD ... I gave the van to a kid from Fredericksburg who wanted it for his garage punk band. Just couldn't say no to that!)

Well ... Jethro & Carl -- Ya done good, boys!! The very first one of these Homecomings/Wrenchfests started out with 5 or 6, so just remember that it may take a time or two. The PLUS ONE is my good friend Al Hill. He has 3, (yes THREE), 1934 Chevy trucks in various stages. Two are 1/2T and the 3rd is a 1.5T truck. He really enjoyed learning about torque tube repair and maintenance. We became friends because he lives only 30 minutes from me and has a 1965 C10 Stepside like mine.
When I showed up at Jethro's on Friday, we talked about just how many bolters were going to actually show up, given all of regrets messages from those who had "Life Happens" issues and couldn't make it, I told him without hesitation that if it was just us two to show up we'd still have a grand time. A few more than just us did show up and we did have a Grand Time! We always do rain or shine. I do miss seeing a bunch of you guys who couldn't pull it off to join us. There's always next time I reckon.
I'll never forget the first Homecoming that I attended. Sunday rolled around and it was time to go home, but I did not find myself in the mood to hurry up and hit the road. I made sure to say goodbye to everyone. Even after saying all of the goodbyes, I just stood there, feeling like I was where I belonged. These get togethers are special. I strongly recommend them to everyone.

I remember the first ones we had, too.I think our first actually ODSS gathering was in Winchester in 2007 ... the Apple Festival, I think. We gathered at the old apple plant. The owner of the property was expecting a big motorcycle turnout that didn't happen and we all ended up being able to pick our own individual port o potties for the weekend I think 2008 was our first actual "Homecoming" at the (then) Stovebolt HQ. That event which ran for more than a decade evolved into "Wrenchfest."
Thing to keep in mind -- we learned that it takes a couple of iterations to build the event. We started small and ... well, you all know what the event grew into. The venue this year (Jethro's place) looks truly beautiful and spacious. Lots of potential for growth. Start planning again for next year!
For nostalgia's sake, here's a little trip down memory lane -- ODSS first official "Gabfest" -- Winchester Apple Festival, May 2007.... 2007???? Holy crap ... Look how young we all look ...
And then a couple from the first actual Homecoming. (which built on the participation the year previously at Winchester ... and included inviting the members of the ATHS Baltimore-Washington Chapter)

I'm hoping to be able to host a Stovebolt event of some type one of these days- - - - -while I'm still on the green side of the grass! Some recent medical issues with both Mary and myself have put me a little behind the power curve lately, but I'm looking forward to that situation improving, sooner rather than later! Jerry
