Did I install these mirror arms correctly?
I bought them from Jim Carter Truck Parts.
Two problems:
1. The flange on the base that cups the hinge prevents the door from opening very far
2. The arm don't stay in position, and wind up pressed against the windows.

What did I do wrong on the install?

The tab goes inside the door, I had to shave it thinner to fit

Oh wow! I had no idea (obviously). Does the hole in the tab serve a purpose?

At some point I'll be installing my doors and mirrors. I just learned something new - again! Thanks Chuck.

There is a screw for the mirror arm, it goes through the hinge and holds it all together. It should be a countersink screw head.

I don’t recall if I used the screw, I’d take a pic but won’t be at truck until Tuesday,
be sure you have a door strap to limit how far door opens, the wind can catch the door and it will snap off the mirror post…ask me how I know, mine was a leather strap which failed and cost me new post

DJ - Here's another thread on the exact same topic that provides a bit more detail on which side of the tab to trim down and some other helpful tips.

Apparently a must do mod to get the reproduction mirror arms to install correctly without breaking them.

Let us know how it turns out.

When I put my mirror arm on I did not use the set screw. I only have about 10 miles with the mirrors on and no problems yet. I do have to lean to the right to actually see out the passenger mirror but that works for me.

Happy to report following Chuck's (aka Hanks custodian) was successful, although I am a poor bench-grinder operator, for sure. I did not use the screw hole for anything.

doesn't the mirror arm move with out the screw holding it to the hinge? At higher speeds, I bet the blow back.

The mirror arm is over door hinge and pin goes through mirror arm and hinge. So mirror arm does not move. Just door hinge. So if opening door to far open window from door may hit mirror if not careful. Bad door catch or wind as mentioned above.

Mine have some room to move so the screw is needed to keep them tight to the hinge.

Looks like a good fix. My drivers arm is original and passenger arm is reproduction. Driver fits tight and passenger arm had to be thinned about 1/16” but that fits snug also.
