Need to replace the rear axle vent (ventilator) on my '46 1/2 ton pickup. '29-58 parts catalog says part number is 3738462 (drive type). However, mine is a 3/8"-24(?)(actually looks more like 27) threaded vent. I believe I have found them in plastic (for later model cars/trucks). Does anyone have a chevy part number for this threaded type and have you been able to source a steel replacement part? Would anyone have a usable one laying around? The top of of mine is crushed to the point of not even being able to attempt to remove it for inspection/repair/reuse.

The cap is crimped on loosely as long as you can blow some air through it should be okay .Newer vehicles have a hose that goes up and loops higher on the frame with a one way valve so if you go through deep water or back a boat in at the launch it doesn’t let water in .
+1 on the hose bib and vent hose. I've seen several rear ends ruined by water getting into that type of vent. Jerry

That's 1/8 NPT which is roughly 3/8" OD and 27 tpi. That type is fine if you don't submerge the axle, but if you plan on doing that, then running it up to the frame is a good idea. You can stick the capped fitting on the end of the hose to keep the mud daubers out.
