Howdy!
I am curious what options there are for making these trucks a little more quiet (working with a '54 3100). I presently have retro-sound dampening pads (rubber with a foil surface) on the firewall, floor, roof, doors, and back panel behind the seat. It did help noticeably, but I am still curious about any tips for I dampening engine noise when running at the higher speed my 3.55 gears have given me (55mph is VERY noisy).
Thanks!

Assuming your valve train is adjusted properly, you've pretty much done everything possible to quiet down your truck.

Do you have wind noise from worn out weather stripping or Windows rattling and loose?

Since you've gone to the trouble of putting sound deadening everywhere, I assume that all your rubber seals are taken care of and are no holes in the firewall.

Installing insulation on the underside of the hood might also help but probably not as much as you're looking for.

Short of installing an engine with hydraulic lifters and an automatic transmission, I'm pretty sure you've done everything possible.

I feel like most of the noise I experience at highway speed is more wind than engine. (‘51-3100/ 235/ Sm420/ 3.38 rear)

And I’ve done basically zero soundproofing above what the factory did.

Edit: That post might have given the impression that my truck is quiet inside. It’s not. The wind noise is borderline oppressive. Perhaps I’d hear the engine more if not for the wind.

Did you put insulation on the underside of the front cowl? That area is in front of the windshield. The sun beats down on it and is close to the engine.

I helped a friend apply a sound deadening called Lizard Skin to his '67 C10. This stuff is sprayed on and covers great. It's not the cheapest solution but I can tell you it works. His Truck has a 3 inch exhaust with 40 series Flowmaster Mufflers. The Truck is quite inside, you can have a normal conversation without shouting.

Please make sure your front frame mounts (front of cab to frame) are okay and that your cab isn't sitting right down on the frame. These settle over time and if that happens you'll get a lot of noise telegraphed from the frame into the cab and as you would expect it is worse the faster you go. I used some PVC shower pan liner material (tough stuff) and built mine back up to where there was about 1mm space between the frame and the body. It did help.
