I have a 6 volt starter on my '54 235 that I received from a fellow Stovebolter.
The starter was working for the previous owner when it was removed from service and then sat on a shelf for quite a while.
I see a flip-top oiling access point on the forward end of the starter and want to know if I should bother adding some oil. If I should, what and how much do I add?
Basic, but, better to ask than to wish I had.

The shop manual says to add 30 wt oil, if I remember right. Whatever you put in the crankcase will be fine. Just a small amount. A few drops to keep the felt wet. 1/4 tsp? 1/2 tsp? No need to fill it all the way to the top of the tube.

Starting motor: "Lubricate every 1000 miles with a few drops of light oil or engine oil."
Generator is the same thing: "Every 1000 miles put a few drops of light oil or engine oil in the 2 oil cups."
