Bolters,

I have a 46 Chevy w/ 350 engine and 700R4. I was planning on building a bracket similar to Lokar bolting onto the tranny tail housing and locating the original hand brake on the passenger side of the tranny close to where the original. Has anyone done this or any other suggestions? I have Huck brakes on the back and discs on the front.

1990s Chevy 3500HD trucks came with a 700R4 from the factory, with a big drum parking brake on the back of it. Maybe you could find one of those in a wrecking yard and pull that setup. Since there was a factory option, it might not be too difficult.. (yeah right-famous last words)!!

Just a note that from what I know, 1990s Chevy 3500HD trucks came with heavy duty RPO MT1 4LE80 transmissions with the rear mounted parking brake drum setup. Two wheel drive from the factory, but there were some after market companies that converted some trucks to 4WD. I couldn't find anything noting there was a parking brake equipped 700R4, but I've been wrong before - lol. smile

I have a Lokar shifter mounted to the tail shaft of a Turbo 350. The original park brake lever is mount to the bracket and fit where it was originally. It only required two holes being drilled and a couple spacers to set it out a bit. Everything lined right up and works perfect. I will get to other computer and see if I have some pictures of the mount.

I did that on my '36 with a 4L60 trans. I'll see if I can find the pictures I took. I used the bolts on the tail shaft housing to bolt it to.

GM never put a trans mounted park brake on 700R-4, 4L60, 4L60E transmission, also didn't use these transmissions in rigs rated above 7,200 gvwr.

@GDads51 you are very likely correct. I thought the rig had a 700R4 but now after this thread, I believe I was mistaken and it's the heavier duty option you mention. The rig in question rolled over the scales empty at 8600lbs, and was powered by the 6.5l turbo diesel, from the last year or two before Duramax. It had a 14' steel dump bed with 6' high steel sides. Great rig for hauling a lot of junk.

Thanks for the input. I went ahead and made a bracket and wasn't too difficult to do. Pictures to follow. Very similar to the Fast55 and Joe H and mounting to the passenger side 2 tranny housing bolts.
