I NEED YOUR THOUGHTS AND SUGGESTIONS. I’ve got a stock 1958 Chevy 3100 with all original equipment , I’ve got an original deluxe heater and original deluxe heater control switch. The wire to ignition switch to the heater switch has an old school inline 20 amp fuse . Every time heater fan motor is switched on, the fuse blows in one minute. Do I have a short circuit, or a fam motor pulling to much power or something else. Where should I start in tracking down the problem and what all and how should I problem solve the issue. Thanks for any advise. Pete

Bypass the switch and see if the fuse blows. If not, buy a new switch.

could be a bad motor. bad wiring. you could add a fuse block.

Maybe the motor has dry bushings and it has to work too hard, drawing too much current and blowing the fuse. Also, does it have multiple speeds? If so, the blower motor resistor could be an issue.

You didn't state:
a. if the fan was turning or not
b. if the fuse blows when the fan is only at low speed
c. if the fuse blows at low and medium speed
d. if the fuse only blows at high speed

The fuse blows when the switch is turned on and the fan runs but the fan only blows at one speed kinda low compared to my other 58 truck and doesn’t increase speed as I increase the fan control on switch to a higher speed. The fuse blows after on 30-60 seconds later. Maybe not even that long. Thanku for any suggestions. Pete

Pete - Since this all involves primarily electrical components, I've move the thread over to the Electrical Bay for further conversation. wink

Where is the motor resistor. Is it replaceable or in motor housing or windage of motor. I’m not experienced in electric motor parts n functions. Thankyou for any suggestions

The stock 58 deluxe heater fan resistors are directly behind the fan switch .

So the fuse blows even if you leave the fan switch in low?
