Who rebuilds steering boxes and door hinges??
Does any members do this kind of work?
If not who do you recommend??
I’d like to have my 51 Chevy 1 ton steering box gone through and have new door hinges pins installed in my door hinges.
Thanks….joe

Lares is one outfit that rebuilds steering boxes. I think it has to go thru another vendor who sends them to Lares for rework. But click here for their contact info. I did mine myself, but it was mainly a cleanup and reseal. Jim Carter sells replacement worm shaft and nut assemblies, as well as sector bushings and seals.

I also rebuilt my door hinges. A drill press would have been handy for that, but I don't have one. Succeeded anyway. If your hinge pins are seized in the straps that go into the door, it'll be a bit harder, but still do-able if you're reasonably handy. But I'm not in the business of rebuilding them.

Lares did a fabulous job on my '76 Ford F-150 steering gear.

That was 10 years or so ago and it was $300. It's probably double that or more today.

Joe - I moved your thread about the steering box rebuild to the best on topic forum. Your question on the door hinges needs to get asked in the Doors sub-forum in the Paint and Body Shop as the best place for that topic. wink
