I finally got my sm420 converted over to the propellor style parking brake. http://pg.photos.yahoo.com/ph/truckstein/album?.dir=bc4ere2&.src=ph&store=&prodid=&.done=http%3a//photos.yahoo.com/ph//my_photos
It turns out that both transmissions had the holes already tapped from GM. I just had to get past 40+ yrs. of crud, keep the gears in neutral, and switch top and back plate. Does Anyone have an "extra" band adjusting screw "B", per '63 shop manual(as shown in the 2nd photo on my link). Mines missing! I jimmy rigged an inferior replacement for now. I still went out and bought some Irwin NC plug taps, they'll come in handy. Thanks again for encouraging advice. The Hell with gas mileage anyway, these old school park brakes are the way to stop!
