Disassembled the driveshaft and pinion gear assembly and got a little ahead of myself. Following the devestechnet.com procedures, I forgot to mark the orientation of the pinion shaft retainer to the front pinion bearing. According to deves the retainer has a a special taper to it so the orientation matters. Does anyone know which way the taper faces, towards the front bearing or away from it? Appreciate any help.

Check here. The pins on the housing push the front pinion bearing forward.

klhansen, thanks. So I interpret that picture, and your description, to mean that the taper should face AWAY from the front pinion bearing.

If you look closely on the retainer you should see we’re the 3 tapered bolts push on it ,there should be marks on the retainer.

That's how I knew someone took mine apart before me. It had six marks on the retainer.

Thank you gentlemen. All great information.

While on the topic of assembly, did you freeze the pinion gear and or warm the bearing to aid in pressing the bearings on the pinion shaft?

I’ve read and plan on following those instructions on doing a gear change in mine to the 3:55 ratio. Are you doing the same gear change? Are you doing the work on the rear end while it’s still in the vehicle? Did you buy the rebuild kit or buying separate parts based on the list? Please keep us updated on any other challenges you come across.

I used a press and did not have to freeze/warm the bearing.
