I'm working on a plan to machine away the rope seal groove on a GMC block and main cap and replace it with a 2 piece aluminum seal holder for a big block Chevy rubber seal. Then I'll turn the crankshaft seal area down to the diameter of a BBC crankshaft (about .050")

Cam is back. If we can get the oven turned off out here, I might get it in this weekend. Of course, I can always get up when it is 3-4 am. No wind, no heat, no bugs, and the critters are all heading for their sleeping spots. All except the coyotes looking for a cat or two to eat.
Cam is back in. Push rods and rocker rack back in with the towers torqued down. Front cover, damper and trigger are re-installed. Breakfast with the wife and then I'll set lash. I made a new side cover but need to stick it back in the mill to finesse a couple of spots. Maybe I'll even throw a quart or two or ten of oil in it. If it's not ready to run by the end of the day, tomorrow for sure. I'll get some pictures later. Maybe even some video of it running, if all goes well!
I'm following this build with a great deal of interest- - - -I contacted your cam grinder with my idea of making my own cam cores, and got no response- - - -I'll bet he thinks I'm some kind of nutcase- - - - -which could be a distinct possibility, I suppose! LOL! Jerry

What is the device in the second picture with "Easy Grip" stamped on it? It appears to be in the hole where the no longer used distributor used to reside.

That's an expanding rubber plug, used as an oil filler cap. Lots of Diesel engines use the same item.

Been taking a break, chasing small leaks and other stuff. And by taking a break, I mean turn my attention to a 4-71 blown V6. That one is maybe a week away from firing up. After that, I'll have no excuse except to get back to the inline. Don't know why, but I haven't been interested snapping photos of any of this stuff. Might have to get back to that, too.

What is the heritage of the 200 c.i. six? Looks GM to me.

Chevy made a 200 cid V6 in the late 70s. They basically cut #3 and #6 cylinders off a 350.

For this one, I use the application of a '78-'79 Malibu. But most of the time, there won't be a parts listing. Using a 283 for parts search works much better.
Iskenderian cam made for 10 psi of boost. For a while, just finding the blower manifold was becoming a chore. Triple V belt drive by design.
Nope. We will speak of it no more. It is just another GM engine of many and not related to Stovebolts or trucks. It actually predates the inline. At least, the inline is directly truck related.
BTW, I need to find a little time to have a chat with you about the Haltech. I'll send you a PM when I have a chance.

I'll trade you my GMC 228 straight up. Leaks oil, needs a carb rebuild, has an HEI.

Is there a cover/air cleaner or something that goes over all those stacks to keep dirt and leaves and crap from going in?
