I'm working on a plan to machine away the rope seal groove on a GMC block and main cap and replace it with a 2 piece aluminum seal holder for a big block Chevy rubber seal. Then I'll turn the crankshaft seal area down to the diameter of a BBC crankshaft (about .050")

Cam is back. If we can get the oven turned off out here, I might get it in this weekend. Of course, I can always get up when it is 3-4 am. No wind, no heat, no bugs, and the critters are all heading for their sleeping spots. All except the coyotes looking for a cat or two to eat.
Cam is back in. Push rods and rocker rack back in with the towers torqued down. Front cover, damper and trigger are re-installed. Breakfast with the wife and then I'll set lash. I made a new side cover but need to stick it back in the mill to finesse a couple of spots. Maybe I'll even throw a quart or two or ten of oil in it. If it's not ready to run by the end of the day, tomorrow for sure. I'll get some pictures later. Maybe even some video of it running, if all goes well!
I'm following this build with a great deal of interest- - - -I contacted your cam grinder with my idea of making my own cam cores, and got no response- - - -I'll bet he thinks I'm some kind of nutcase- - - - -which could be a distinct possibility, I suppose! LOL! Jerry

What is the device in the second picture with "Easy Grip" stamped on it? It appears to be in the hole where the no longer used distributor used to reside.

That's an expanding rubber plug, used as an oil filler cap. Lots of Diesel engines use the same item.
