I took the carb off and theaccelator pump has a small hole in it. Is this the problem or is it something else. Does it take vaccuum to close the pump or is there a spring of some sort missing? The carb is a Carter on a 235. | | |

The float should push the needle into the seat and shut off the flow of fuel. If there is dirt or rust in the way the fuel will continue to flow and flood the carburator. Also, the float could be full of fuel from a internal leak. If the float is full it will sink in the fuel and not shut down the flow.
