What is double-flaring? Do I need it?

I used a double flare tool I bought at the used tool house around the corner from where I lived. After a half dozen practice flares  I was able to do some that looked good. One of the problems I had was pressing to hard with the anvil and splitting the flare. I've also read that you don't want a cheap tool (may of been what I had) get a good one. Larry

Yes you need it. That is what it takes to mate to the master cylinder fittings and the brake hoses.
