As I understand it, the 292 uses a bypass hose for the coolant to flow straight from the thermostat housing back to the water pump, whereas in the 230/250 this exchange occurs via an internal passage? I assume this allows a higher volume of coolant flow for the 292?

Thanks

If I remember correctly, the 292 block is taller but the water pump would be in the same location
as the 230/250 to be centered with the radiator/core support. The bypass could be installed to
make up the difference. My 66 C20 w/292 also had a much larger radiator than a C10 with a 250.
