I pulled out the choke until I found a sweet spot and got most of my power back. I pushed the cholke back in when I came to stops so that I wouldn't soot up my spark plugs. The choke method worked fine the rest of the way to the party and all the way home which was fifty miles. I figured that there was dirt in the main jet, since pulling the choke knob forced gas to be sucked from somewhere else in the carburetor. I took it apart and found a 1/4" long skinny piece of rubber in the main jet hole nearly plugging it up completely. That small rubber piece came off of the accelerator pump shaft seal. If I would have had an automatic choke instead of the manual choke, I wouldn't have ever made it home that day. I love these trucks.

Worst case…..if one were so inclined, a single flat screwdriver would have the carb apart in a couple minutes. Maybe add one wrench to that tool list if you wanted to take the carb off the manifold.

No, the worst case would be (and this is what I envision would happen to me), dropping a screw/part attempting that repair. I believe Carl did the right thing by getting it home, when he could work on it in a more controlled environment.

Yep, right down the carburetor throat.

One time I had a hole form in the accelerator pump diaphragm of a YF2100 which cause an extreme rich condition to the point that it would stall at idle from an extreme rich condition. I pulled the throttle knob out just far enough to keep the engine running while not moving. This allowed the excess gas to be burned instead of drowning my spark plugs. And, once again, I made it home just fine.

Of course it worked its way out on the freeway and I had no response from the gas pedal. It was too hot to even hook it back up and stick a makeshift pin in place so I drove home working the throttle on the dashboard.
That was tricky to do while steering and shifting gears. I made it home - about 6 or 7 miles on the interstate and sorted it out when it cooled down.
