I need to change my dually to single rear wheel. It is the donor for my 41 gmc coe project. It's a 2001 chevy 3500 cutaway van with a 14 bolt gm rear-end. I would like to stay with the 16 inch wheels. How big are super singles. I would just like to find like wheels without the huge offset of the dually. Dave

One chart on the web shows the bolt pattern has not changed for many years, your 2001 should be 8x6.5. I have mounted single shallow wheels on a dually rear in an emergency and the bolt pattern was the same from the 1984 single to the 2000 dually. My 1976 K20 had 16.5" bias ply tubeless. my 1984 C20 had 16" radial tubeless, my 2000 K3500 had 16" tubeless. my 2011 2500HD has 17", all are 8 lug. You should have many options when searching for wheels, if we were closer neighbors, I would give you some of my excess wheels.

Super Singles are generally a 22.5" tire. It might be a challenge to find an 8 lug wheel with that large a diameter. I would contact one of the custom wheel companies and maybe just ask some questions, you shouldn't be the first to run across this situation.

I think I have found a place that will make me a couple of wheels.

Are you putting matching wheels on the front?

The front hubs on a dually truck have a hub extensions that allows the truck to use the large offset rear wheels on the front (spare works on front and rear). Single rear wheel trucks don't have that extension on the front...the wheel bolts directly to the drum. If you leave the front extension on then the front tires will stick out further than the rear tires...might look funny

There would be an awful lot of kickout too, it might drive funny with single offset wheels on dually front hubs. If you go single you will be better off finding single wheel front hubs, so that the centerline of the wheel will be where it's supposed to be in relation to the bearings and to the kingpins.

I know on 1999 and newer Ford dually trucks, the wheel extension bolts on and can be removed to attach single wheels directly to the hub. The deep offset dually wheels on the extension wind up in the same position as single pattern wheels bolted directly to the hub. Not sure if Dave's 2001 dually has that same wheel extension on the front.
