Again, thanks! | | | | Joined: Sep 2020 Posts: 2 Moderated | | Moderated Joined: Sep 2020 Posts: 2 | I have a 1936 Chevy lowcab pickup and I want to install a 235 from a 1953 Belair and use a 2005 Chevy Colorado rear end with 3.42 ratio. As I speak I have obtained a bell housing from a 1938 Chevy and the peddles, flywheel and clutch components. I know that I have to modify the front mounts as the 235 is a bit longer than the 207 and I needed at least a 1938 Bellhousing.
Now this is where I am seeking advice: If there were a way that I could but a tail shaft with an open yoke on my original transmission that would be fine with me for the time being. However if I need to obtain a different transmission such as a Chevy 4 speed from a '41+ year and then add the tail shaft for a 1 1/2 truck to give me the open yoke for the reared match up. I would welcome comments etc. I don't know of any other suitable transmission to use in this application. I would like to avoid getting another bellhousing to accommodate the bolt up of transmission

Since you're swapping out the rear (I assume you're getting the springs and hangers with it) and the engine, why not put a more modern trans in as well? If you're keeping the original trans you should keep the original rear. Are you upgrading the front brakes to match the Colorado rear brakes? You would need to add a crossmember and a hanger bearing behind the original transmission to do that. Some years of long wheelbase GMC 1/2 ton frames had a similar driveline extension. Jerry
