This tailgate came to me with the "1940" Chevrolet pickup project I purchased. As it turned out, the bed on my truck is from the 1937 to 1939 series truck, so even if it was a Chevrolet tailgate, it wouldn't fit.
I am curious as to what year(s) GMC pickup it would fit.
Thanks!

Sure looks like the AD years 1947-53 gmc pickup tailgate. Fits 1/2, 3/4 and 1 ton trucks The gmc stamped original is much rarer than the Chevrolet version.
Please Don’t let it go for cheap or to anyone who plans to modify it for a hack build It deserves to go to an original restoration. -s
Agree with 2ManyTrucks. The AD year beds were 50" wide inside which matches up with the width of the tailgate you have. Earlier beds were 48.5" inside. I don't believe that 40-47 Chevy tailgates were ever stamped with Chevy script, but were just plain. Not sure if GMC tailgates of that era had embossed logo.
That one is a very good survivor as far as original tailgates go. They were probably the first thing bent on a truck.
