This tailgate came to me with the "1940" Chevrolet pickup project I purchased. As it turned out, the bed on my truck is from the 1937 to 1939 series truck, so even if it was a Chevrolet tailgate, it wouldn't fit.

I am curious as to what year(s) GMC pickup it would fit.

Thanks!

Sure looks like the AD years 1947-53 gmc pickup tailgate.
Fits 1/2, 3/4 and 1 ton trucks
The gmc stamped original is much rarer than the Chevrolet version.

Please Don’t let it go for cheap or to anyone who plans to modify it for a hack build
It deserves to go to an original restoration.

Agree with 2ManyTrucks. The AD year beds were 50" wide inside which matches up with the width of the tailgate you have. Earlier beds were 48.5" inside. I don't believe that 40-47 Chevy tailgates were ever stamped with Chevy script, but were just plain. Not sure if GMC tailgates of that era had embossed logo.

That one is a very good survivor as far as original tailgates go. They were probably the first thing bent on a truck.

Thanks Kevin!

Perhaps I will put this in the Swap Meet section and see if someone has one to trade that would fit a 1937-1939 bed. Those were about 45 1/2" wide.
